Meet Jason

Jason’s practice is broad ranging and extends the entire commercialization continuum, helping clients with their changing business and innovation related needs. He has prosecuted in all areas of intellectual property and in numerous areas of technology. Noted for his practical and approachable manner, Jason’s skills are repeatedly relied upon to draft and review critical contractual arrangements, such as commercial, joint venture, research collaboration, licensing, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements. As a patent and trademark agent he drafts patent and trademark applications for diverse sectors, helping to de-mystify the process for clients.

 

A regular columnist and contributor as well as invited speaker in the United States and Canada, Jason has published numerous articles and spoken on industry focused topics ranging from the intersection of technology and IP, technology adoption for business, crowdfunding, and IP as a strategic business tool.

Social engagement

Jason’s alter ego is particularly interested in promoting diversity in the legal profession. He was a Founding Member and Past President of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL) and served two years as the Northeast Regional Governor for NAPABA. Currently, Jason serves as a Board member of the Toronto Lawyers Association, an association representing 12,000 lawyers in Toronto.

Jason’s ongoing community interests led to his naming in 2012 as one of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's (NAPABA) “Best Lawyers Under 40”, making him its first Canadian award recipient, joining an elite class of American judges, general counsels and partners of Am Law 100 law firms. In 2013, Canadian Lawyer Magazine recognized Jason as a finalist for the “Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers” in Canada.

Notables

Jason earned his Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law after completing an honours degree in biology (B.Sc.) at the University of Western Ontario. He has been a registered trademark agent since 2002, and a registered patent agent since 2004. In 2012 Jason received credentialing as a Project Management Professional (PMP). As only one of a handful of lawyers recognized by the Project Management Institute, Jason is uniquely qualified to handle the most complex legal project matters.
